Aug 11, 2008 11:07am CST tags: Microsoft, Leak
Continuing the recent trend of leaks, a new video showcasing the revised Xbox 360 dashboard and its game installation functionality has appeared on the internet.

In addition to game installs and Netflix streaming support, the new dashboard--dubbed the New Xbox Experience--will pack customizable Avatars and the original blade interface when it arrives this fall.

As previously reported, and demonstrated in the footage below, installed games will still require the disc to run as a result of piracy concerns.

New Xbox Dashboard Leaked, Shown in Videos

Jul 28, 2008 2:01pm CST tags: Microsoft, Leak, Trailer
An early build of the next Xbox Dashboard update, which updates the system's interface and provides a wealth of new functionality, has been leaked onto the internet.

Though the update can only be installed on modded Xbox 360 systems, a number of shaky, fuzzy videos released by hacker xHaVoK87 show the new dashboard in action.

The demonstrated build is said to be a work in progress full of text errors, with promised features such as optional game installs and Netflix movie streaming not yet functional.

Microsoft is set to release the new dashboard, which includes the option to use the system's original blades dashboard, at some point this fall.

Duke Nukem 3D XBLA Screenshots Leak (Updated)

Jul 09, 2008 10:44am CST tags: Duke Nukem 3D, Screenshots, Rumor, Leak, XBLA, Xbox Live Marketplace
Update: More shots have popped up on Plaza.Fi, JeuxVideo Kotaku and V2.fi.

Given the flood of screenshots from various outlets and languages, it is likely that the port has appeared on PartnerNet, a closed Xbox Live network only accessible through development kits and debug units.

PartnerNet availability would also suggest that the price point of 1337 Microsoft Points ($16.71), as specified in one of the shots, is placeholder.

Shacker ease one reports that the 83 MB Xbox Live Arcade port of Duke Nukem 3D is indeed downloadable through the closed PartnerNet network, though the current build only "displays a rotating poly and that is it."

Original Story: Two alleged screenshots showcasing the downloadable Xbox Live Arcade port of Duke Nukem 3D in the Xbox 360 dashboard have appeared courtesy Joystiq and tipper SV.

The enhanced XBLA release will arrive this year with co-op and online multiplayer in tow, according to a Dallas Business Journal report that contained... Read more

First Rock Band 2 Songs Unveiled? List Shows Journey, System of a Down, Motorhead, More

Jul 02, 2008 9:50am CST tags: Rock Band 2, Leak
The first tracks for Rock Band 2 may have been inadvertently revealed during a recent episode of G4's X-Play.

The footage, as captured by members of ScoreHero, lists new songs along with downloadable content from the first Rock Band.

Given that the multi-instrument music game sequel is compatible with all of the existing DLC from the first Rock Band, the tracks could represent upcoming Rock Band DLC, not content included on the actual game disc. However, it should be noted that The Who's "Pinball Wizard" is not part of 12-track The Who DLC pack due July 15.

The tracks listed were as follows:

  • New Songs:
    • "Ace of Spades" - Motorhead
    • "Anyway You Want It" - Journey
    • "Pinball Wizard" - The Who
    • "Chop Suey" - System of a Down
    • "Panic Attack" - Dream Theater or Finger Eleven... Read more

Massive Leak Reveals Activision and MS Projects

Jun 16, 2008 7:00pm CST tags: Leak, Rumor
Across the weekend, marketing research firm Intellisponse inadvertently left its backend unprotected, allowing the public to access a ridiculous amount of internal documents relating to Microsoft, Activision, Disney Interactive, and others.

The revelations, as detailed below, were many. A Mii-like avatar system for the Xbox 360, details on the next Tony Hawk game, Wii Yoga, and even a product that allegedly, somehow allows console games to be played on PC:

As is noted throughout the stories, please keep in mind that Intellisponse is a marketing research firm, and as such, this data could represent market surveys or test concepts instead of actual products.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 Details Arrive via Leak

Jun 16, 2008 1:45pm CST tags: Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, Activision, Rumor, Leak
The first supposed details on the formerly revealed Marvel: Ultimate Alliance sequel have surfaced, providing a glimpse at the action-RPG's characters and platforms.

Due out on PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP, the game is set during Marvel Comic's recent Civil War event.

Players can apparently combine the superpowers of their chosen team. For example, crossing Storm with Spider-Man would produce electrified webs.

Over 20 Marvel heroes will be playable--including Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Venom, the Human Torch and Storm--as they face off against their own to show their support or dismay of the Superhero Registration Act.

As with many of our other stories today, the information arrived courtesy internal documents from marketing firm Intellisponse, which were rehosted by NeoGAF.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 is expected to arrive during publisher Activision's 2009 fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009. No developer has been revealed, though Marvel: Ultimate Alliance veterans Raven Software are expected to return.

Forza 3 Spans Two DVDs, Has Over 100 Tracks?

Jun 16, 2008 12:45pm CST tags: Forza 3, Rumor, Leak, Microsoft
Internal documents from marketing research firm Intellisponse indicate that the next entry in Turn 10's Xbox-exclusive racing simulation series is apparently so massive that it spans two DVDs.

Specifically, the firm claims the unannounced game will pack "over 400 cars and 100 tracks."

The information comes as part of massive data leak from Intellisponse that was documented by NeoGAF. The company's clients include Microsoft, Activision, and many others. As Intellisponse is a marketing research firm, this data could represent market surveys or test concepts instead of actual facts.

The documents also note that Microsoft is toying with the idea of a collector's edition that would include a "special VIP program that would entitle the user to all future Forza 3 downloadable content, access to exclusive online race events and prizes, extra server space" and more.

Rumor: Custom Song Support in 360 Karaoke Game

Jun 16, 2008 12:28pm CST tags: Microsoft, Lips, Rumor, Leak
Microsoft's previously-rumored Xbox 360 title Lips is a karaoke title that lets users bring their own songs into the game, going by internal documents from Intellisponse.

Packing two wireless and motion-sensitive microphones that sport flashing lights, the game will apparently include 30 songs, with the ability to download more songs in addition to importing. The motion sensors are said to allow point-gaining dance moves.

According to NeoGAF's exhaustive coverage of the leak, Lips will somehow reduce the vocals of imported songs, permitting folks to hear themselves as they sing along.

As noted in our many earlier stories, Intellisponse left its backend unprotected over the weekend, allowing many to access its internal marketing research documents. However, as the firm specializes in marketing research, it is possible that this information could represent concepts and market surveys instead of actual facts.

Wii Yoga Allegedly in Production

Jun 16, 2008 12:05pm CST tags: Wii Yoga, Health, Rumor, Leak
Joining the number of other fitness titles emerging in the wake of Nintendo's Wii Fit, the recent information leak from marketing research group Intellisponse indicates that a Wii Yoga game is in some form of prodction.

"Follow along with an inspirational yoga guru instructor matching their on-screen poses, stretches and triangular positions with the motion sensing Wii controller and balance board," read a document entitled Wii Yoga, which NeoGAF found among the many internal docs contained within the company's unprotected server backend.

It is not known which company is commissioned the market research, though Intellisponse clients include Activision and Disney Interactive. It is also unclear as to how the title may differ from the Yoga mini-games included in Wii Fit, that is, if the product ever appears in the marketplace.

Leak: Guitar Hero 4 Bundle Costs $180, Includes Touch-sensitive Guitar, Doors and Hendrix Tracks

Jun 16, 2008 11:35am CST tags: Guitar Hero IV, Rumor, Leak
Continuing the assault of leaked information from research firm Intellisponse and NeoGAF's rehosting of its internal documents is word that Guitar Hero World Tour, more commonly known as Guitar Hero 4, will sell in a three-instrument bundle for $180.

In addition to the previously-revealed drum kit, the PS2, PS3, 360 and Wii-bound bundle is said to contain a new guitar, featuring "a touch-sensitive guitar Neck Slide [that] opens up the entire guitar neck for unbound solos," and a microphone.

A number of bands were listed in the documents as well, including Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, KoRn, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, Muse, along with a tease of "dozens more".

Competing title Rock Band, which emerged from Guitar Hero creator Harmonix last fall, is sold in a $170 three-instrument bundle on 360 and PS3.

Please keep in mind that this information is unconfirmed, and as Intellisponse is a marketing research firm, could very represent market surveys instead of actual facts.

14 Spider-Man Game Concepts Revealed in Leak, Including Spider-Man vs. Marvel Zombies

Jun 16, 2008 11:02am CST tags: Spider-Man, Activision, Leak, Rumor
Marketing research firm Intellisponse's inadvertent leak of multiple internal documents detailed a total of 14 new Spider-Man game concepts from publisher Activision.

Included in the massive list was Spider-Man: Agile Warrior, which is controlled with the Wii Balance Board, Spider-Man: Hero Evolved, set in 2064, Marvel Team Up: Spider-Man Meets the X-Men, and Spider-Man vs. Marvel Zombies.

Agile Warrior is a Wii exclusive, while the latter three are slated for PS3, 360 and Wii.

As Intellisponse helps test market response for products, it is difficult to know which titles are merely proposals and which are in full-blown development.

Read on for the full list and descriptions of the 14 games... Read more

Rumor: New Tony Hawk Uses Actual Skateboard

Jun 16, 2008 10:28am CST tags: Tony Hawks Adrenaline, Rumor, Leak
The next Tony Hawk game on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 may utilize a motion-sensitive board controller, according to internal documents, rehosted at NeoGAF, from marketing research firm Intellisponse.

Referred to by three different codenames--Tony Hawk's Huck Jam, Adrenaline and Amplitude--the game is said to provide "the ultimate skateboarding experience" through an "intuitive board based control scheme." Oddly, the title is listed at a regular price point, suggesting the skateboard peripheral may be sold separately.

Tony Hawk brand owner Activision, which is listed as one of Intellisponse's clients, previously vowed that the next main Tony Hawk game, due out between April 2009 and March 2010, would be innovative and "won't be your father's Tony Hawk."

Given the error-laden nature of the document and Intellisponse's role as a marketing research firm, it is possible that this is merely one of many concepts that Activision has commissioned for market testing. That said, a motion-sensitive Xbox 360 skateboard controller was revealed by peripheral developer Qmotions earlier this year.

Play All Console Games on PC with Trioxide?

Jun 16, 2008 9:40am CST tags: PC Gaming, Leak, Rumor
Hidden amongst the many internal documents that marketing research firm Intellisponse inadvertently supplied to the public was something called Trioxide, which is said to allow PCs to play "the latest console games" with the original controllers.

How exactly Trioxide would accomplish this feat was not addressed in the now-removed documentation, which was partially preserved at NeoGAF. Of the three major systems on the market, only the Wii's controllers do not use USB plugs.

Two price points were listed, $49 and $299, suggesting that there may be some sort of hardware component to Trioxide, such as a capture card for display input.

Keep in mind, this information comes from a marketing research firm, so it could merely represent a product concept, not one that is currently in production. Read on for more details, including the Intellisponse-supplied product description... Read more

MS Documents: Xbox 360 Getting Mii-like Avatars

Jun 16, 2008 9:09am CST tags: Leak, Avatars, Mii, Rumor
The Xbox 360 will soon gain a series of customizable player avatars, going by NeoGAF and Xbox 360 Fanboy coverage of a massive internal document leak from marketing survey and research firm Intellisponse.

Appearing quite similar to the customizable Mii system used in the Nintendo Wii, "Avatars" are said to replace the Xbox 360's existing gamer pictures and are supposedly due out this holiday season. Below are some descriptions directly from Intellisponse:

"Avatars" are digital personals available this holiday for all Xbox LIVE connected members and this spring for all new console owners. "Avatars" will be used in place of the gamer picture you have today and give you a much more lifelike, animated and fully customizable persona for you to reflect who you are online.

With hundreds of clothing options to choose from your "Avatar" can truly reflect you each and every day!

Spend a few minutes or a few hours building and outfitting your "Avatar" to reflect the real you. The choice is yours.

Your "Avatar" will represent you as you jump into various arcade and retail games. You'll be playing in the games!

It is unclear as to what Microsoft may do with its existing gamer picture system, especially as many gamer pictures are sold for a fee in the Xbox Live Marketplace.

May 12, 2008 5:56pm CST tags: Too Human, Screenshots, Microsoft Spring Showcase, Leak
Furthering the silly amount of material leaked from Microsoft's Spring Showcase are new Too Human (X360) screenshots that show the action-RPG's cooperative play.
As with the leaked Banjo Kazooie and Viva Pinata 2 screens, these shots recently began popping up on message boards and sites.

For more on Silicon Knights' efforts to reinvigorate the action-RPG genre, scope out our hands-on impressions of Too Human.

Check back with Shacknews tomorrow morning for the full scoop on Microsoft's Spring Showcase and its many titles, assuming there is anything left to cover by that time.

More MS Rumors: Ninja Blade, Lips and Scene It? 2

May 12, 2008 3:29pm CST tags: Microsoft, Leak, Rumor, Microsoft Spring Showcase
Though Microsoft's Spring Showcase event doesn't take place until tomorrow, more supposed details have emerged to accompany the already-leaked media and rumors of a motion-sensitive Xbox 360 controller.

Tomorrow's announcements apparently include a sequel to the Xbox 360 movie-trivia title Scene It?, a game called Ninja Blade, and something known only as Lips. That is, according to listings that supposedly popped up on a Microsoft's press site and were captured by NeoGAF.

Apart from the product names, no other details are available. Some believe that Lips could be a voice-controlled game or a voice-related accessory, though it is all just idle speculation at this point.

The listings also suggest that the Viva Pinata sequel that unofficially debuted this morning will be known as Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise.

Check back with Shacknews tomorrow morning for the full scoop on Microsoft's Spring Showcase and its many titles, including Banjo Kazooie (X360).
