TNT2 Tweak Guide

Jul 12, 1999 3:38am CST tags: NVidia
Tweak3D has busted out a very nice tweak guide for TNT and TNT2 owners. He digs into the registry and tells you how to enable 16bit multitexture (it defaults to multitexture when you're in 32bit already) among other nice things. Got a quick overclocking utility there too.

FiringSquad has a review of the new Permedia3 based 3DLabs Oxygen GVX1 card which dissapointingly looks like it isnt really a gamers card. If you wanna play Quake3 get a V3 or a TNT2. Oh well. Also,   SystemLogic has a massive review of the 3DLabs Permedia3 card for you to check out.

New Win98 TNT2 Drivers

Jul 12, 1999 3:36am CST tags: NVidia
Some new Win98 TNT2 drivers have hit the net. They arent an official release fron NVidia but I checked them out and they work dandy. Check out the D128 guys for the scoop. You can also have a look-see at this comparison of the drivers which shows that they actually slightly slow down Quake2 scores, but add some stability.

Nvidia and hardware T&L

Jul 05, 1999 12:48am CST tags: Hardware (PC only), NVidia
PlanetRiva interviews Michael Hara about their announced hardware transformation and lighting technology. Nothing concrete yet on what we call the "NV10" though. Still, here's a bit on what hardware T&L will do:

Transformation and Lighting are the first two of the four major steps (triangle setup and rendering being the final two) in the 3D graphics pipeline, or series of steps required to produce 3D graphics.  Both steps are mathematically intensive and very specific in the mathematics they require.

<snip>

Dedicated transformation and lighting will have the same impact as filtering did for pixels, but much bigger.  Software transformation and lighting done by the host CPU today is the biggest bottleneck that has forced software developers to limit the geometric complexity and lighting sophistication of their 3D characters and environments.

Elsa Erazor Review

Nov 30, -0001 12:00am CST tags: NVidia
4-Gamers has a review up of the TNT2 based Elsa Erazor 3. Here's a quote: As you can see the Elsa Erazor III performs on par with other tnt2 cards in 3dmarkMAX99 and my quake 2 benchmarks. Nvidia is getting better with their no performance loss at 32-bit color statement. In the crusher demo I hardly lost any fps by going to 32-bit color. I also lost very few fps by going to a higher resolution.
